Please be careful when/if you ship your kitties. Puppies died in cargo with American Air.

Very sad... just one of the many reasons I refuse to ship my babies.

When I moved from California to North Carolina (1985) and then again from Florida to Texas (1991), I shipped my cat and dog. They had very strict rules about the weather and putting them in the air conditioned hold. It worked out nicely! These days, they aren't nearly as "pet-friendly" and I'd never do it again! Now days my boys go with me in the car!

I have always been against shipping pets after a horrible experience several years ago with my daughters cat. We relented and flew Chase home once, seemed okay. But now we have Chicka, heaven only knows what she went through during shipping, all we know is by the time she got here she was a terrified mess, and will probably always be, never again. This is so sad. :cry:

Continental Airlines is the only airline that has 100% air conditioned shipping- they have it in the building the pets are kept in before they are taken to the airplane, the vans that transport the pets in to get to and from the airplane are air conditioned and the pet cargo area inside of the plane when they fly is air conditioned too. That is why I only use Continental Airlines during the hot summer months. I'v been shipping pets for over 10 years with Continental and I've never had an issued, so I do think the service of the carrier makes a difference. It's just not possible to drive to pick up or fly yourself to pick up in every case- so in these cases shipping is vital. Pet owners should look for a breeder who is expereinced and knowledgable about shipping and airline policies. Every cat I've purchased for my own cattery has been shipped except for one, so I have also had several experiences recieving cats.

I agree tracy, i ship continental as well. My local airport doesnt have continental so i have to drive 3 hrs to a larger airport. they have strict policies to protect the animals and they have the a/c like you said. has anyone had experience shipping with delta during the months where the weather isnt extreme? delta is at my local airport, but i havent used them for shipping. i have had cats shipped to me in the winter months three different times thru delta though.that seemed to go okay..

The first time I shipped I shipped Delta Dash...not sure they have it anymore. I could only ship to an airport where it was a direct flight and it couldn't be over 78 degrees at either place. It was a good experience.
