The thing that is holding me back is that they are related - Sol is Mimis uncle. I have talked to a couple of breeders who say that it isn't to close, while one (who has a PhD in genetics) told me that it would be a closer breeding than it appears. I won't decide until I see her in a few weeks and talk to her about it. I only want what is best for the cats, but can you imagine the eyes on those babies???

Lynda, have you considered checking the coefficient of the breeding? You might find they are not as close as you might think. This is a sticky subject and one I have only done once -- beautiful litter but didn't keep anything for my program...all were petted out because they were just too close. It was a breeding I did because I was left with no choice if I wanted to hold onto the female. In my case the breeding was done purely to prevent pyo and loosing a beautiful girl -- I was in the midst of getting a outcross male but she cycled so much I couldn't wait any longer.

But this is interesting information...here are a couple of links you might find interesting.

Mercy! I knew I should have paid better attention in school all those years ago! This will take some time for me to work out. I'm not the brightest bulb when it comes to genetics but I am working on it. It is a good thing Mimi is to young to breed yet. I have studied the pedigrees again and I can't find any ancestors used multiple times.

Well, it isn't going to happen. Mimi is my husbands baby and he told me he doesn't want me to breed her to Sol. Sol can be testy and he is afraid he would hurt her. I don't think so, but will honor hubbys wishes. Since I have no other boy for her, I guess she will be added to my spay list.

I'm sad and happy about this. I'm glad I won't have to worry about Mimi having kittens, but sad I won't get one of hers. (Ah, like I need #13. )

Linda, one more and you will have caught up with me! Of course, I try not to count Loki since she 'belongs' to my daughter, although she has never lived anywhere else but here since Sarah got her. Sarah has been in Boston for about 5 years now and yet Loki is still here with me.
When I told my husband we will have to spay Mimi he said "You never know what the future will bring." - What ever that means!!! Certainly not another cat since he says we have a full house now.
