Minoo is looking for a new home, which can give him the love and attention he truly deserves. I am in college now, and he lives at home with my father and his wife. I feel that she is mistreating him. I hate to lose my friend of 12 years, but it is best for him.

Im not even sure its possible to find a home for an older cat, even though he acts half his age.

We live in Cary, NC.

He is perfectly healthy, has never had any health issues. Still very playful and active, he has his favorite toys, and he loves the laser pointer. He is allergic to corn, like most cats, so will need to be fed something corn-free. We feed a dry food called Healthwise, but its a bit hard to find. He did have a urinary tract blockage about 4 years ago, but we have switched to non-clumping litter now, as per the vets recommendation, and he hasn't had any such issues since. He LOVES people, so he would be best if he did not have to be alone all day. I know he doesn't like male cats, but he doesn't mind females. Not sure about dogs, hes never met one.

He is neutered. Also declawed. We did this 12 years ago, and if I had known then what I know now, it wouldn't have happened.

I don't know how to put pictures on here, but I can email them to whoever wants them. :)

why do you think she is mistreating him? moving an older cat to a new home is going to be so traumatic for him...you should be absolutely sure of what is going on...

I should have said "i know" not "i think" because I've been seeing it myself for many years, but the problem is that now I am not there to protect him.

He is exceptionally adaptable, he will fare better somewhere else.

Yes, it is possible. It is harder, but still possible. There are people like me who feel especially sorry for older cats who up for adoption because it is hard to find them homes.

As for older cats having a hard time adjusting, it all depends on the cat. I adopted Robbie (age 5 years) and Dante (age 12-15 years) at the same time. Dante took about 2 days to totally adjust. Robbie about died thanks to his stress level causing him not to eat and then his liver shutting down -- it was about 3 months later that he was marginally adjusted. If your cat is not the nervous type, he should adjust well.

If you were closer to California, I would take him, but even meeting half way is too much for me. I'd suggest you look up rescue groups in your area, especially any that deal with Persians or purebreds, and let them know what the situation is. If they don't have room for him, ask them about a courtesy listing on PetFinder or tell them you will continue to care for him until they can find a home for him.

Good luck.

Yeah that sounds like my cat, haha. He adjusts within hours, really.

But yes, CA is all the way on the other side of the country, it would be a very long trip. Maybe I will find someone like you, here in our area. :)

I did put up a profile for him myself on petfinder, and we have a couple cat-only no kill shelters which I have volunteered with before who agreed to put up a picture of him on their websites. I have yet to find a persian rescue in the area. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.

I had put him on craigslist, and I found one seemingly very nice family, but I backed out after everyone told me never to trust anyone on there.

I just did a quick search for Persian rescues in the North Carolina area. Here's a couple of possibilities:

http://www.va-persianrescue.org/ It's in Virginia, but that's closer than CA. :P
Contact: Margarete Ziemer

Address: PO Box 2101, Easley, SC 29641
Contact: June Hancock

Fancy Feline Rescue of the South http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/fancy ... escue.html
Metro Atlanta, GA 30127
DaIe Thompson
Phone: 678-522-2152
Email: FancyFelineResQ@bellsouth.net

If you do place your cat with one of these groups, do check them out just like you would a potential family. Some rescues are great, and some are really only selling cats.

I hope you can find a good home for him. Since you're in college, how about Spring Break in southern California???

thank you so much! I have had him listed on 3 rescue sites, but the one in VA I had not heard of.

Haha, that would be fun. Is Irvine anywhere near you, by the way?

I can vouch for Dale at Fancy Feline Rescue here in Atlanta. I got Reggie from her (he's my avatar) and have done some rescue work with her.

Define 'near'. Irvine is about 1.5-2 hrs away (or more during rushhour). By California standards, yep, not too far away.
