If she's mistreating him, she's probably even worse with you gone. Might be better to call your local humane society and see if they work with a persian rescue to take him right away. I adopted my new Bailey (himalayan) from the humane society and she adapted in about a day. She is happy as a clam. If he's placed with a good person, I am sure he'll adjust right away. Better that than with a mean stepmonster.
