Go to Craigslist. I think they have a place for listing lost cats. I would also call the humane society and tell them you have found one and maybe your local paper lets you list free ads for found pets. OUrs does here I think.
When I found a dog I created a poster and put it up and all the gas stations and grocery stores in the area that people might go to. Those are place people usually stay pretty close to home to frequent. I found the owner the next day. They were so excited.
Those sign on poles are worthless because no one can see them, especially when they are driving by.
Go on google and put in "Places to list lost pets in ----" and it will tell you all the places. If you have done this and no one comes forward, obviously they don't care very much about the kitty and it is much better off with you to begin with.
