I was winning with their matted coats at last but got a professional couple of groomers to help with their tummys but instead .they have stripped all the undercoat out as much as the size of the cat. Is this correct? I stopped before my other two babies had the same treatment. Also my purring contented one turned into an aggressive lion screaming biting scratching for life . This can't be right?Anyone out there goes through this . :cat: :cat:

The undercoat should never be removed. It has a purpose, and wasn't meant to be taken out. Are they using a "furminator"? I personally am not a fan of these brushes.

When you bathe kitties, they often lose a LOT of fur so they feel smaller and lighter. Had they been groomed before? If they had never had a bath, the screaming could have been just anger.

Hugs to you and your babies. And pictures please

In my world, no, it's not right to turn a contented cat into a screaming, biting cat. I am not a fan of grooming by force. I personally would try a different groomer, especially if you can find one who specializes in cats and understands how to work with scared cats.

Smush seemed like half as much cat after her bath at the groomers a few weeks ago. I don't think they had her long enough to ferminate THAT much!

She still smells good, her skin doesn't hurt and she lets me pet her, and still not getting mats, so it was worth the price. she got a tummy and bum clip too.

Linda's right. Let me re-word that. Some cats can't be bathed without screaming/biting/freaking out simply because they think you're trying to drown them/harm them/scare them becuase they aren't used to it... for instance, I had a tabby who was 8 years old and we tried to give her a bath because she had an accident... there was a lot of screaming/biting/freaking out.

I'm not a fan of grooming by force either. At all. Hope this all works out for you

Thanks so much everyone. Horror to think my baby shouldn't have lost all his coat. This was just a groom . Not a bath. They said that despite all my efforts there was still dead hair which needed to be out. Pulled out more like!! I could quite happily get the comb through the coat. Tummy still knotted though. At least my other two have escaped the trauma having seen the screaming I just said no. I will keep going bit by bit until they are matt free . Maybe I shouldn't take a holiday again.

:( Sorry your baby had to go through this. You just never know what can happen. I am afraid of groomers. :?

Oh and no they were not using a furminator just the wide tooth and undercoat combs. I use a greyhound and undercoat comb and slicker brush am very gentle very slow and comb them when they are asleep and purring. I wonder what tomorrow will be like now? Oh for a cat brushing angel.

mats on the underside of the kitty are the worst. i bought a little battery operated trimmer and just snip the mats out when the cat is asleep..one..at..a...time. lol. this saves me and smush a lot of aggravation.

Hope your kitty de-stresses soon!
