I gave Winston lamb this morning and he threw it all up right after he ate it. It seemed to have a lot of gristle in it or these white greasy little pieces. I think it was too greasy for him tho I gave him another feeding about a half hour and I think it was lamb too but didn't have the white pieces in it and he's kept it down.

Anybody find their cats on raw food flavors do better on one than another? I bought lamb, and chicken (the latter is mostly what I've been feeding Winston) and wanted to try turkey too (or have them try it!).

Alaska even had nearly a one oz serving of raw food yesterday but turned her nose up at it this a.m.

I try to give my herd a variety, but since some are allergic to this or that, it gets complicated.

Assuming there are no allergies involved, the ease of digestion is:
chicken, turkey, rabbit, beef, lamb, pork

If Winston threw the lamb up within 20 minutes of eating it, I would suspect he is intolerant of the lamb (severe allergy). If it was the grisle or fats, he would get diarrhea or vomit after 1-2 hours. Since he ate it again and kept it down, it may be more of eating too fast.

Thanks Linda. Yeah he vomited almost right after he ate. I think he must have slurped it down too fast tho he seems to do that anyway with almost all these feedings. Guess that one was just gonna come up! He's now held down 2 other lamb feedings tho I don't like the white stuff in the lamb and it seems more greasy. So far Alaska won't eat lamb. Lola will eat all~ she's such a dog!

Pick out some of the white stuff and try to squish it. If it squishes, it's fat. If it's hard, it's gristle. (BTW, why does 'gristle' look funny?)
The white stuff, if it is gristle, is fine. It just will add bulk and some micronutrients.

If the white stuff is fat, then what I would do is mix the lamb with chicken 50-50 to make the lamb leaner or the chicken richer. Now, some raw feeders really frown on the mixing of protein sources. There may be some relationship between mixed proteins and IBS. I understand the argument but I don't agree with it totally. I try to avoid but with Winston, I think the benefits would outweight the possible problems. (Also, the possible problems may take years to develop.)

Lamb is a lot fatter than chicken and can cause digestion problems with inadequate bile production. Lamb has 23g of fat per 100g. Chicken has 68g of fat per 100 grams. So as you can see, lamb is 3 times fatter than chicken.
