Oh geez - I can't even watch a needle break skin
Maybe going to the vet everyday would be the best bet - by the time
you have gotten it done right, stressing before and after - it will
take less time to make the drive I bet.

Glad he is doing ok :cat:

Good luck, Ellie!

I think I understand what your vet is asking you to do. Once the needle is in the skin (like Heather said, the skin can be very tough), you can feel if it's free to move. I don't think I've ever hit tissue or bone, except once -- and then it was TOTALLY apparent! (Shot into skin tent -- who cares. Shot into tissue -- scream, claws, blood--my blood!)

:? Linda yes, and it's the "hitting " blood and then having to pull the plunger out again to make sure that you are not hitting that blood vein. :? That's the hard thing to do with only two hands.

it is very easy when you get used to it.
I gave my Vinnie injections once-twice daily for 3 years- and anticlotting medication SC
I used disposable insulin syringes- bought boxes of 100 from a pharmacy or online pet product store.
It was very quick- as i was just under the skin at the back of the neck- I would lift up the skin- and as it was Subcutaneous - 'skin tent"- minimal risk of hitting a vein.
Good luck- you will be an expert soon.

Judy the last 7 days have been horrible for Dakota and for us. The shots were so hard to do and Dakota was getting so stressed so we have taken him to the vets everyday. He is supposed to have a needle thing to check his urine tomorrow and I know he's done with the vet visits. He even hissed at the needle today and is not happy. :( I think he needs to stay away from vets for a while if the infection is gone. He seems to be feeling better now that he has had the antibiotics.
We were to take him to the specialist when all this is over and we will do it, but I think he needs a break and so do we.

Ellie - I'm so sorry this has been so hard for you. Nothing is harder than inflicting pain on the babies. Sending hugs and prayers to you and Daks. You are on the tail end of the injections, right? I'm so glad this ordeal is almost over and you guys can have some rest and a * or four.

Ellie, I'm sorry you and Daks are having so many trips to the vet. Not fun for you or him. You may be right about so many trips and him needing a break. You might want to consider pushing back the specialist appointment for a couple of weeks to let Daks mentally recover. One thing Maggie has taught me is the importance of a cat's mental state -- loose that, and you will loose the cat.

Ellie you are brave, I was never able to give injections, the cat may have been fine but I was reduced to a whimpering, worthless lump. One option you may want to consider if this happens again is seeing if you can find a vet tech to come to your home to do it, or maybe even a nurse or something.

I hope our little Dak is going to be just fine now, poor baby. Hugs to all of you.

:( :(

I've been checking for an update about sweet Dakota and I'm sorry to read that this has been so difficult. Neither hubby nor I were any good at giving Sasha meds, let alone a shot. Once Sasha got wise to what was coming, she positioned herself in places that we couldn't reach. Even taking her to the vet was a hide-and-seek operation and we had to be very quick to grab her before she suspected anything.

I'm glad that he seems to be feeling better. At least for that. I know that you and hubby need a break from all of this too.

{{{hugs}}}
