I think cats do get allergies. Joey sneezes regularly, usually on my face while I'm asleep - not a good way wake up  . After getting Peppers (smallish black and white cat) cleaned and trimmed I can see her little black eyes and it looks like one is a little puffy and her eyes always have discharge. So I'm taking them and maybe Cinnamon who is having breathing difficulties that sounds like congestion to the vet to be checked out.

It was dry in Phx but I believe it is worse in N. New Mexico high country. I like to have one humidifier in my bedroom. I like the steamer in the winter and the cool mist in the summer though in the summer I use portable water/swamp coolers which really helps the humidity. I also have another humidifier in the front room.

I have to use lotion regularly to prevent dry skin. My groomer also puts a conditioner on the cats when she bathes them to help with dry skin and dander (which may help allergies). The cats really seemed to like it and are acting like they feel better.

I've also read that other ways to increase humidity is to hang wet cloths up to air dry and have a fountain.

Kira sending lots of hugs sunshine by the sounds of it you need them. Now your not paranoid something is making you & the kids itchy. I wonder if it's what they treated the carpet with. Maybe give the carpet a good vacuum too and get some of the low allergenic cleaners, I use earths choice cleaners here they are safe for environment. If the place has been treated with bleach that too could cause irritants together with the dry weather. Lord knows we have enough of it here my hair is a big frizz ball but it's curly so nothing much I can do ATM

Sorry Puffy is still at odds she will get better.

Oh a tip if it's dry and the kids are itchy may I suggest hold off on bathing them as this may dry the skin out and you could have them suffer serious dander issues or skin issues, just a thought or if you have to bath get some conditioner for their coats

Love and hugs cherie Phoenix, Apollo and Molly  :cat:

Kira,

Until you can get around to getting a humidifier, put out a large pot of water. That should help put some moisture in the air.

WHat a neat tip!! I had no idea!

Cherie - I haven't been bathing Puffy, but I will definitely try to cut down on Chunkster's baths. He is just such a mess. Do you have a conditioner you recommend'? He is a holy terror to bathe, but I think I can keep him in there for a second longer

Its a shampoo/conditioner in one that doesn't use sulfates that make shampoo sudsy... it protects your color and really hydrates the hair. You have to follow the directions and at first it will seem like you are using a lot, but, I just love it. I have a short haircut, and one of the results so far from being sick and the treatments is my wavy hair is kind of strange in places, but I just LOVE the Wen.

You can get it at QVC much cheaper than his website. He uses it on his dogs .. I haven't used it on my cats, but... hey????

I've used my shampoo on Puffy when I've run out of something else. She smelled great!! :D Puffy's breeder uses Suave shampoo on her cats. The clarifying to get the grease out, and then she uses an antifungal shampoo, and then a conditioner. She has lots of pretty cats, and has a few GCs so it must work! :flower: Sometimes I wonder how different pet shampoo is from human shampoo... I don't wash the babies' faces when I bathe them, I wash them separately afterwards with a hot washcloth. I think I'm going to maybe try my Biolage on Chunkers next time instead of the pet shampoo to see if that helps.

Hey Kira I use the Ana grooming products they are excellent I have the face powder for staining the cleanser and shampoo and I believe the conditioner is excellent. They are a USA product and much cheaper for you :D here is a link below. When bathing I use morning fresh original and baby shampooe for the head and face J &J no more tears and the wash from Ana for the stubborn tear stains. Human shampoos have things that can cause irritants and their skins is more sensitive than ours. You could try washing puffy less to keep the coat less static and itchy and a teaspoon of fabric softener in the water on final rinse but make sure you rinse it out. But all In all if not showing I wouldn't be washing every week or month. Molly only gets bathed once a month and seeing as I will not be showing her I will stick to this.

I hope you don't think me being and old fart and momma Im just sharing what I have learnt. There is a product with oatmeal but I think it's here only in oz if i can find it i will link you, try and keep clear of products that are not natural I am not saying dont bath the kids as I use morning fresh detergent but I use it sparingly. :D

Kira i know you have bio groom there they have good products and we use Fidos white and bright but only on the white Part of her coat it smells wonderful

Try this website that jedaro and Carmel told me about they sell biogroom and Eqyss. We all use different products and you will work out what's best process if elimination. What does Tracy use or used on chunk maybe have a chat to her or Puffy's breeder

But don't ever think your a bad momma your a loving mom and just had a few hiccups which will all remedied by love and care. So take care and give those kids hugs from Aunty Cherie

Cherie - I only bathe PPP every couple of months. Out of sheer laziness.  She takes SOOO long to blow dry. It's about time for another bath though because her coat is getting massively thick and we have a few mats. :x

I have the baby shampoo. Right now I'm using Paul Mitchell's shampoo for cats. I paid a ridiculous amount of money for it at Petsmart and it works fine, I just wish is smelled better or something... Puffy is so good for baths she will let me condition her, but not CHunkers. Hopefully he'll get better, Lord knows Puffy did.
