Puffy seems about the same today. Eager for breakfast and cookies, but not super hyper. Chunk is in the bathroom for today with his pillows, toys, and the sink. ;) She is letting me pet her and hold her, but no real change from yesterday.

I was wondering though, do kitties get allergies from their environment? Chunk has been sniffly/snuffly, but nothing worrisome really; and then I woke up with a bright red itchy eyeball. And PUffy's eyes seemed to be a bit red and puffy also. Could we be suffering from an allergy attack? Maybe I'm reaching here, but we all seem a little under the weather.

Well.. Chunk doesn't really. He loves life more than any creature I've ever met. :D

Kira, I am sorry to hear that PPP is not back to her usual self, hopefully in a few days she will be bounding about getting into all sorts of mischief. It's really hard seeing our pets under the weather. :( I remember Fatty Boom was really lethargic but still eating, I was super worried, I took her to the vet straight away and he said not to worry, he gave her a wee antibiotic just to be safe. It took her a good few days to come around, I was so worried. Send the Puffster a big snug from me.

I get REALLY itchy eyes everytime I get a new kitty, it fades through time and I usually get some eye drops. Chunky sounds fine, just a wee case of the sniffles. Keep us updated, sending love.

Some of my neighbors' pets have allergies to the area here. The desert is dry and we have a lot of dust in
the area too. Sasha suffered from allergies sometimes and the vet gave her a steroid shot to get her through the worst of
it. It's not great to have steroid shots and they shouldn't be given often. I think she had it only two times over the years.
We added humidifiers and that probably helped her for the dryness.

I hope that things get back to normal for all of you. It's so worrisome when they're not themselves.

I believe they do.
When I first noticed Maddie had allergies we did the Z/D diet
and it didn't help so my vet said her allergies
were most like environmental.

Hopefully it is just a little bug or something so she doesn't have to deal with them always :paw:

Kira this may seem a bit strange but when we moved this happened and it turned out the water heater was faulty, you might want to have the gas company come out and test the furnace and water heater.. My cats acted the same way but not the dog, she was bigger so it did ot affect her as much. Avet actually figured out what it could be carbon monoxide.

Kira, you might want to try a humidifier and maybe even an air purifier. Garfield has allergies and I give him 1/2 tablet of Chlorpheniramine in the morning and 1/2 tablet at night. He was a little sneezing maniac when I first brought him in and this has really helped him.

Good luck sweetie.

Kira...since you just moved into a new apartment, did they, by any chance, put down new carpeting? It's possible that it's carpet fiber or even carpet glue.

The apartment was so clean it hurt your eyes. There was DEFINITELY new paint. I could smell it. (I have the most sensitive nose of ALL time.. it is seriously a curse, I can't handle anything stinky.) The carpet was vacuumed and had been cleaned, but I'm unsure if it was new.

I think a humidifier is going to be a definite investment. The kitties have been itchy too; I've noticed it, and actually... so have I. TMI ALERT: I am so dry I had to get out of bed the other night, take all my clothes off, and do a total lotion application because my butt and legs were itchy; it is SO stinking dry here! I'm getting eczema all over. With the humidifier, is it ok to keep it in the kitchen do you think, or does it need to be in the bedroom? And can I get a cold air one, I hate the hot air ones; they remind me of being sick when I was little.

Dianne - I don't think it can be carbon monoxide because I have a detector in my apartment. It is required for all apartments to have one in Colorado. But how would I know the water heater is off? I have hot water... I nkow that sounds stupid, but I don't quite understand.

THanks for all the help, ladies.

This could be due to a multitude of things. New carpet, carpet cleaner, new paint, the dryness, etc., etc.

I would definitely get a humidifier. It will help you, also; things like your hair and skin. Also, an air purifier could make a difference. I run 2 humidifiers here because it is so dry. My eyes get really red when it is very dry. Also, be sure and check your furnace filter. Just to be sure, put in a new filter.

I'm glad you locked up Chunk for the day. I still believe Puffy needs some time to herself. Bonny really benefited when we locked up Emily at night for the first week. I think she would rather we still did that. Just give Puffy some time. She's a healthy kitty and she will adjust. To be honest, I would have just as hard a time with all the changes that have happened to y'all.

ETA: I just read your post above. I keep my humidifiers on a hard floor surface. It should humidify your entire apartment no matter where you place it. I would get one of those gauges that will tell what the humidity is. Keep it at between 40-50 percent. I like it at 60 percent, but I love humidity. Your windows will probably sweat a little when the weather outside gets really cold. I'm always going around with a towel in the mornings and wiping windows, but it is worth it.

I have this extra counter in my bathroom, a sort of vanity type thing, I will set it there so the babies can't get to it.

I think tonight, I'm going to keep Puffy in my room and I'll let Chunk hang out in the bathroom and living room. That way we can TRY to get some good snugs in. We haven't had a real good snug in a while.

And I love humidity too, I'm from Texas. I love humid weather. I could never live somewhere like Arizona because it gets too hot and dry! CO is dry, but not as hot :flower:
