Registered Users - FAQs

Registering with Persian-cats.com means you will be able to make a free Web page for your cat, view the newsletters, and access the Forum and Chat Room. When you register, you will choose a username and password to use when you login to restricted areas of the site. Registration is FREE and will only take a moment of your time.

I have registered with Persian-cats.com but I am unable to login to the restricted sections. What's the problem?
Most likely, you have entered an incorrect username and/or password. Please remember that both the username and password are case sensitive. So you must enter both exactly as you did during the registration process. For example, if "PersianFan" is the username you entered, then you must type "PersianFan" when you login. "PERSIANFAN" or "persianfan" will not work. So be sure to save the e-mail you receive after registering because it contains the exact username and password that you chose.

What if I cannot remember my password to login to the Members Only areas of the site?
Go to
http://www.persian-cats.com/register/reset_password.cgi and follow the instructions.

How can I update my user profile?
Go to
http://www.persian-cats.com/users/edit_profile.cgi, make the necessary corrections, and click the "Edit My Profile" button to save your changes.

How do I add cat pictures to my Start Page?
You can choose as many cats as you like for your Start Page. However, the Start Page will only display 3 pictures at a time. So if you choose 10 cats, they will be part of a rotation.

To choose new cats, go to your Start Page. Under "Purrsonalization," click on "Choose My Persian Friends." Then you can go through the gallery and pick the cats you want.

Who are the registered users of Persian-cats.com?

Chat Room - FAQs

How do I use the chat room?
Under the Members Only section, click "Persian Chat Room." If you agree to the guidelines, click as directed to start chatting. If you have not already logged into the site, a little box should pop up where you will type your username and password. (You chose your username and password during the registration process). Once you are logged in, a new window will open displaying the chat room. In the bar at the bottom of the window, you can type your messages to the other users. Click "Send" to post your message. Next you will see your message displayed in the white area. Then other users can respond to you. When you are finished chatting, click the "Log Off" button in the left-hand panel.

Sometimes I get booted out of the chat room. Why?
It is probably a result of network traffic in your area. If a lot of people are accessing your Internet Service Provider at the same time, it can really play havoc with your connection speed. Usually when you visit a Web page, your computer connects to the server once to receive the information. However, when you use the chat room, it continues to connect with the server every 10 seconds to receive the latest postings. This means your computer has to keep going through the network. If there is heavy network traffic, it is possible for your connection to slow down or even get lost.

I recommend that you avoid simultaneously surfing other Web sites while you are chatting. Minimize any other network activity that you may have going on in the background, so that you are dedicating all of your connectivity to the chat room. (For example, do not run KaZaA or FTP in the background.)

Submitting a Picture to the Gallery - FAQs

If you have a picture of your Persian (or other breed) and would like to submit it to the Gallery, fill out this form. Please include all relevant information.

In what format, should I send a picture?
Please send your picture in jpg format.

Once I send my picture, how long does it take to have my cat added to the gallery?
Please understand that each picture is manually added to the Gallery - it is not an automated process. Also, there is only person maintaining the Gallery in her spare time. Therefore, Gallery submissions may take over a week to be processed, due to the volume of images we receive. Regardless, once your request has been completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation.

In the future, will the gallery ever be divided into 2 separate galleries: one for show-quality Persians and the other for pet-quality Persians?
No. Show quality versus pet quality is a touchy subject. We work hard to help Persian-cats.com visitors feel welcome regardless of what kind of cat they own. It is our goal to keep everybody one big, happy family. We would hate to do anything to foster a "my-cat-is-better-than-your-cat" attitude.

Breeder Finder - FAQs

Once I submit a cattery to the Breeder Finder, how long does it take to be added?
Please understand that each listing is manually added to the Breeder Finder - it is not an automated process. Unfortunately, it can never be an automated process because of the high volume of inappropriate links we receive for gambling and pornography sites. Therefore, we must personally check each site that is submitted to make sure it is indeed the cattery it claims to be. Also, please bear in mind that there is only person maintaining the Breeder Finder in her spare time, so changes may take a week or so to be performed. Regardless, once your request has been completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation.

Can I update an existing listing?
Absolutely. If your cattery moves or you have a new site address, we will be happy to update your listing. Simply fill out the Breeder Finder submission form and click the Yes box next to the question "Is this cattery already listed in the Breeder Finder?" Once your request has been completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation.
